Adoption

A lot of you have asked me for information about adoption, and while I had good intentions to ask lots of questions about that while visiting the orphanages, when focused on interacting with the kids, my only thought was the present…talking to them, holding them, feeding them, taking pictures with them…I did discover, though, depending on the orphanage, some of them don’t adopt children out. When I asked why, they said that their children are older and knowing their home, the other kids, and the staff, it would be hard for them to leave. They are a family, one orphanage’s worker explained to me. ┬áVajira Sri in Sri Lanka and SOS Children’s Villages in Chennai do NOT adopt out. The Hongik Child Welfare Center on Jeju Island, South Korea, Shanghai Healing Home in Shanghai, China, and the Mother Theresa Center (though not the location I went to) do adopt out. I have not found out the answer to this question from the Good Life Center yet.

So, I thought it would be good to compile some information on this page regarding the adoption process for each of the countries I’ve visited along with some information about adoption from foster care. I hope you find it useful, and who knows…maybe it will lead to someone taking that step to look into adoption!
